One Year of Obsession

Rob’s Reflection

When’s the last time you’ve been obsessed with something? I heard the above Tweeet on a podcast, and I can’t get the idea out of my head. I’ve been thinking more about the idea of obsession, and asking myself when’s the last time I’ve felt obsessed about basically anything.

Before Z Caddy, it feels like a long time. For the past 3-4 years I’ve been busy getting my MBA and working a soul-crushing consulting job, and at almost no point during that journey did I feel obsessed with the things I spent my time doing. In fact, quite the opposite: I spent a ton of time thinking about why I had so little passion for what I was doing every day and longed for a different outlet to pour effort into that would allow me to create value doing while feeling fulfilled.

When I started Z Caddy, working on it part time, I had a small voice in the back of my head saying: “Huh. This feels different.” After some soul searching and vision boarding (yes, I’m one of those), I decided to go all-in on Z Caddy - not because I had it all figured out, not because it was the safest path (my student loans sure remind me of that fact), but because it fueled a spark in me that I hadn’t felt in a long time. And now I wake up every day more excited to work than I’ve been in a long time.

That doesn’t mean it’s all easy - there are some days I really struggle to create momentum (throwback to last week’s Z Caddy Weekly), and other days where things feel so chaotic. But by reminding myself of my obsessions, of my highest life priorities, I have a north star that helps me navigate through the chaos. Having an obsession is a powerful reminder of what’s most important in my life right now, and how unimportant so many things that I worry about actually are (more on what’s important and knowing your priorities in next week’s Z Weekly).

All that being said - I’m SUPER GRATEFUL to all of you for being a part of the Z Caddy community (the “Z Daddies”?... eh we’ll work on it) and being a crucial part of the journey. I’m committed to continually improving Z Caddy - our company and products - to give you all and any future customers the best experience possible, helping you all enjoy that daily Zyn experience just a bit more.
